Having a few problems with the forums, so I've made some changes to the user registration process. I've also made a few other changes around the forums.

I would also take this time to say that if anyone wants access to the Private Forums, can you send me a PM and I'll consider granting access. Be patient as it can take time to change your permissions and set up the relevant accounts to the various FTP's, Email and SVN accounts.

I would also urge long time lurkers to also PM regarding the access, while you may not have the hefty post count of others, you've probably been around just as long as others. So feel free to send me a PM as well.

I suppose it's about time WE upgraded the forums and made a few other changes as well.

I didn't realize it was that simple. PM sent of course.

We are going to be moving servers later today, so there might be some downtime.

Just to clarify something, it doesn't matter if you have 0 posts or 1000 posts, if you would like to be considered for access to the private forums, please send me a PM.

Just wondering did you get my PM? Its not showing up in the sent items folder. Also just want to thank you for the opportunity!

Yes I received your PM, and I won't be confirming who's PM's I received in this thread. If you sent it, I've received it and I have read it.

Is there seniority?

RonanHayes

Just a quick update on the user registration process. All new users are moderated, so your account will need to be activated. If we havn't gotten to activate your account please feel free to PM me and I will activate it.

We put this in place as someone managed to either register a new user as RonanHayes or modify an existing user. So we have put the moderation in place to hopefully make it easier for people to join and also to ensure things like this don't happen again.

Regarding the private forum access, I will be getting back to everyone as soon as I can, everyone will go on the list and will be granted access. There is no order to this list, nor is there any real preference shown, so don't worry you won't be overlooked because someone has 500 more posts than you.

I'm a lurker nowdays. I don't have the time nor the intelligence to keep up with half of the blokes around here.

Well, I have to admit that I have been lurking since April of 2007 on this massive project and posted a few questions, comments, and concerns along the way, all of which Ronan has consistently answered. Yet, I'm going to digress from PMing as I know my chances among the mass amount of fellow "lurkers" of being chosen as a member for the Private Forums is less than slim. So Ronan, I just wanted to add one more tally to my post count and say that I've been a big fan of you and your teams work thus far (as I'm sure most of us are!), and to reassure you that "access granted or not" we will all still be lurking away and asking questions until the project is complete!

Everyone is considered, from the people who signed up straight away when the project started to those who just signed up last week. So don't worry about being overlooked as everything is taken into account and while it may take time people will be granted access regularly.

As a matter of fact, I did send you a private message about getting access to private forums when you last time announced, that you are granting access to people who ask for it. I'm not sure, if you never received my PM, but I never got the access. I'd be very happy if you could give me the access this time. I'm sorry if I sound rude or something. Just a shameless wish 8)

Lest we forget.

I too watched Saving Private Ryan. I also watched All Quiet on the Western Front and the first three episodes of Band of Brothers. :smiley2:

Does the selection of the members that will have access to the private forum depend on the number of post?

According to the developers:
It depends on a lot of factors, time spent here, quality of posts, frequency of login, unnamed factors and just sometimes, quantity of posts :).

I'm guessing time spent here without logging in doesn't count? I'm really looking forward to be granted access to the private forums at some point, after visiting these forums on an almost a daily basis.

Guess I should start logging in every time I come for a visit. :laugh3:

It's completely random how I pick which users, for example

I might see a user post and check out their post history and how often they visit the forums.

I might check the active users to see who is currently on the forums and go through their history.

More often than not while checking the forums logs I'll see which users have been most active (how often they have logged in) over the past 6 - 12 months. Check their history etc and grant them access.

It's random how I select which users to look into. I do look at post count and post history, but I actually read your previous posts to make sure they are not just mindless spam. But I would lean more towards how often a user logs in on the forums and what they viewing on the forums.

I'm not that long, but i do try to follow this forum and any development snippets a lot.
I just find it rather interesting what you all as a team and a community are doing, and i believe you'll be very sucessful when you reach the end of the process.

I only wish i could provide some help but sadly my skills are limited to graphic design etc, plus policing Avon and Somerset leaves me little time!

But it'd be a nice surprise anyway haha :)

I'm guessing it's all a matter of, precisely that, patience. Simply forget about it, keep following the project the same way you have always done it, keep contributing if you are able to, and who knows, you might one day be quite nicely surprised.

Just don't expect it at any specific time, because I believe it is something Ronan do from time to time, whenever he has a free time window. I'm sure he has much more urgent matters at hand, though yeah, I'm looking forward to the day as much as you are. And I'll say it again, not all game developers are these considerate with their fanbase. Though yeah, again, 1944 D-Day is not your usual indie project and its developers a not very typical developing group, starting with the enormously huge scope of the whole project.

You know, sometimes letting everyone know how interested you are and trying to look more excited than anyone else can be good. :D

Nah, I know everyone who hasn't been granted access yet is as excited, who wouldn't? :icon_wink: On the meanwhile and even if I don't get access, this last message by Ronan has managed to make my daily visit to the site a lot more exciting. Nothing yet, but I keep comforting myself by saying it's only a matter of time, true or not.
