I hadn't realized they were making a stand-alone RO (http://www.redorchestragame.com) game to be delivered via Steam, sounds like it'll be released around the end of this year. Did anyone play the UT mod?

Crew 14 fully realized vehicles with highly detailed exterior and interior models
Choose from 28 authentic infantry weapons
Full 32 player online Multiplayer Support
Unique Setting ? the only FPS to focus on the WWII Russian Front

Tripwire Interactive today announced a new World War II PC game, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45. Tripwire will deliver its award-winning first person shooter via Steam, Valve's online content delivery system. The original Red Orchestra won Nvidia's "$1,000,000 Make Something Unreal" contest. Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 is a standalone follow-up, built on Epic?s Unreal 2.5 EngineTM, that introduces new gameplay and features.

Red Orchestra lets players choose from 28 infantry weapons or crew one of 14 different fully-realised vehicles on the Russian Front between 1941-45. The combination of roles across more than one dozen maps, based on real-world locations and battles, allows Red Orchestra to finally achieve its goal of delivering a full first-person, WWII combat simulation.

In its Christmas 2005 issue, PC Gamer UK touts that Red Orchestra is ?showing awesome potential,? and that ?We already knew the mod was genius, but this is even better? as part of its two-page preview of RO: O41-45.

I read about this in PC Gamer UK and found in interesting, personally i didn't like the UT mod at all (not my complete style) yet it was extremely well done and i give credit to the guys for creating a well loved mod.

Should be interesting. I really liked the UT 2004 mod.

Yeh, Deadman, its a fully fledged game now, so I guess we have to pay for it. Your not allowed to charge people for game modifications anyway.

That would be why, i've got 155. Doesn't 156 come out tomorow? Maybe it comes out earlier for subscribers.

25 vehicles seems small compared to Battlefield, but since these are all on the Ostfront instead of on all fronts, and the maps should be smaller (?) it should provide better gameplay.

I thought that they would make the new game on the Unreal Engine 3.0??

Or is this like an intermezzo between the old Red Orchestra and the new UE3.0 version of Red Orchestra?!?!?!

And I thought that Unreal Engine 2.5 also support specular mapping, normal mapping, bumpmapping, pixelshaders and vertexshaders right?!?
Maybe we can see reflecting water, shiny cartridges and normal mapped vehicles? :D

RO was the best WW2 FPS I ever played...but...I don't know what's going on with it now. I thought they had the UT2K4 license, and were going to make a full retail game. I guess they are just using Steam to market it, which is kinda neat. Oh well...I've not been playing any games much lately, and lost contact with it all.

They always had a problem filling servers...not because of the game, but because of the engine it was on. A lot of people didn't want to buy UT2K4 just to play RO, which is just what I did.

It was worth it.

so they are making an RO stand alone game to be delieverd via steam.. is the game made on the source engine because i thought only source games & valve games are distributed by steam?

Distributed on steam. Doesn't have to be made by Valve, or use source engine. Look at rag doll kung fu.

As far as im aware its published by valve and not being distrubuted via steam

I hope RO _the game_ is better then the UT2K4 mod...

Ok, I need to sort this out.

1. The mod for UT 2003/2004 (Red Orchestra) won the NVidia "Make Something Unreal" Contest back in 19-Oatcake. This gave the team that made the mod a few pennies and the license to both the Unreal Engine 2.5 and 3.

2. The full game (Red Orchestra 41-45: Ostfront) is being developed by the same team (Tripwire Interactive) on the Unreal 2.5 Engine, not the Source engine.

3. This game is not a mod for UT 2004, so you will have to buy it, you will not get it free if you own a copy of UT 2004.

4. This game is being distributed through Valve's Steam content delivery system, not being Published by Valve. Take Rag Doll Kung Fu and Darwinia as other examples of such games.

Clear on that?

Yeah, I read the interview on Gamecloud...made sense then. I'd been away from the game for a long time, so I was lost, lol. It's good to see it's coming out on Steam, it will reach new customers.

I hope they make tons of money, those guys deserve every penny. A great dev team, and a fantastic simulation.

I'm going to buy it too, I tried the mod which was a bit disappointing.
But it was fun, after I realized that the engine on which they were modding was screwed...

It still makes me wonder how they got such of a great mod from that game...
Simply amazing.
