What do you guys think the ULTIMATE game would be *(besides 1944 D-day)
I was going to go into detail and say what I think the ultimate game would be, but it was already done in Oberschutze's post.....
You can pick past, present, and what the game company's version of the future would be.. Just in a fictional world... Except you would have the abaility to mabey skip the boring parts, or elese you would die X number of years b4 you got to finish the game.. Mabey pick your starting age? And you could DO ABSOUTLY ANYTHING!!! Scratch your eyeball if you really wanted to.. And the interaction would be olmost real.. Only dif is that your not talking to a real person. You know, go up to your VP and call her a fat whore or something... But yah, Oberschutze said it already...

well, basically 1944 only for the entire world.
but now that i mention that i would love to have a "world simulator" in which anything at all is possible. like a first person tricked out version of the sims only on a world scale. you start as a baby and get older and go to school and have a career... and the world is one immensely detailed fps environment. you could even have time periods, like roman times, 1944, or of course modern era, and every single physical and science law is put in the game, from plate tectonics to chemistry. i know it would never be possible but it took about 20 years or so to go from super mario to 1944, imagine what will happen in the next 100 years : )

Yes, It's called life, get one. (J/K) But seriously, isn't one life enough for us? I couldn't stand to go through another 13 years of grade school.

haha well make it like 1944, you can choose anyone in the world. of course everyone would be fictional because i could see a few lawsuits coming from having real people in it lol...

I'd have to say if 1944 comes out as good as Im dreaming it will then this will be the perfect game, simply because it's what I envisioned so many other games to be but they all fell through the cracks, 1944 re-envigorated my hopes for the greatest WW2 video game

i know it would never be possible
What makes it impossible? Of course it's possible! That and even more is possible we just need the right equipment.

i think 1944 is going to be the "ultimate" game for some years after its release. the anticipation that i have is unfathomable. and im just one person, theres gotta be AT LEAST 300 people anticipating for this game, probally more.

I have been thinking abouth this type of game for a long time and I think it will be possible in 10-15 years because computer power is increasing exponentially.

I can imagine it now.
*Person walks into room and sighs. Sits down at computer and starts playing World Sim. Starts playing his character who goes to work and sits down at his desk and starts working. He sighs loudly aswell.*
Woo.. Talk about getting away from the rat race. :D

Why only civil war? Why not fking war? World war 3???..
In a WORLD SIM *mabey* *hopefully& ANYTHING would be possible...
So if u went to say.. Russia and shot the president, it would start a war.. (mabey) 0r something/../
jager

because most civil wars lead to later agressions, in turn creates another war

FPS games in a kind of a CoD structure, which is set during different wars, like for example WWI (I say again:WWI!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Spanish Civil war, Korea, and some more scenarios from WWII, Italy, Finland, And some more pacific damnit! I'm trying to be realistic here, it can be done....

Alright, Ultimate Game, huh?
Well, we'll need Shaquile O'Neill... um... Godzilla... Batman... Chuck Norris... maybe Jack Bauer, if he's free.
And does anybody know Adam Sessler's adress? He'd make a great 'funny buddy'.
Who else... Ian McEllen... he doesn't even have to be in the game. Just let him say something, and people will love it.
Oh, and the BeeGees. We need to work them in somehow.
Now, who's with me?

Basically virtual reality, except it would tap into your mind and it would be like a dream. The game would take place inside of your head. This way, you could move around freely and basically wouldn't be limited by anything such as physical laws. I also don't mean it would be dream-like, as in all random and messed up, it would be like real life. If you've ever had control over a dream then you'd know what I mean. I think something like this would be incredible.

There's a movie where they have a VR simulator/game thing. I forgot what It was called... Anyone know?
It's when they use this simulator kinda thing to go back in time, and any1 that drives 2 far out of the city see's this grid kinda thing.. But eventually the main character finds out that his world is also a game..

The Thirteenth Floor (1999)
"Computer scientist Hannon Fuller has discovered something extremely important. He's about to tell the discovery to his colleague, Douglas Hall, but knowing someone is after him, the old man leaves a letter in his computer generated parallel world that's just like the 30's with seemingly real people with real emotions. Fuller is murdered in our real world the same night, and his colleague is suspected. Douglas discovers a bloody shirt in his bathroom and he cannot recall what he was doing the night Fuller was murdered. He logs into the system in order to find the letter, but has to confront the unexpected. The truth is harsher than he could ever imagine"

Something kinda like Mass Effect, but completely nonlinear and drenched in hard scifi. The fun wouldn't be in the game, it'd be programming it. You could use the GURPS Space, Ultra-Tech, and Vehicles rules as a framework to algorithmically create the universe from the ground up. With the exception of the tables that would be used for proper noun assignments and the core gameplay rules, nothing would be the same in each game.
But alas, you'd have to leave in the ability to set parameters so the user can customize.
A world sim would require a ubercomputer to play, but hey in a few years were going to have computers that surpass the human brain in power so yeah it could be done.
the best game for me would be a totaly realistic shooting range with EVERY single gun ever made, or a WW1 FPS cause i dont think WW1 has ever had one of thoes, dont know why, WW2 is old and moldy and i think 1944 is going to be one of its last great games, but i could be wrong.

You can't have simulation models of sciences that have no predictive theory.

true, but if you make a game you can assign every object or element or substance a set of real world properties, then kind of throw them together and let them react on their own.

Ya, i guess you could do that.. But, it would require a very long time to do.. Months, even years of devopment..
That movie is just fantastic... really love it. ya it is really.. It's old, but it's still an amazing movie.. IT beats a lotta movies that are coming out now.. Sadly..

Again, molecular dynamics is stochastic. There's no predictive theory to follow and you'd get all sorts of causality conflicts.
But if you're in any way interested in concept design in a science fiction setting, but GURPS Space 4th Edition. Even if you don't play roleplaying games, the framework is so amazingly detailed. I'm working on a VB project to design an entire setting based on its ruleset.

What is Gurps? I've never heard of it before.. Is it like an rpg or something??

Generic Universal Roleplaying System. Its kinda like ADD but with a much more advanced ruleset. In terms of a GURPS rulebook Space is pretty horrible, but in terms of a general ruleset for setting generation, its great.

But what does it do? Its purposeless, and simulators put no stock in narrative of any sort.
