I've just learned of what I can chose as my subjects for next semester at my University (I'm a history student). I'm fairly sure what I'm gonna chose, but thought it would be interesting to hear other people's choices. I'm to chose two subjects. One must be what we litteraly call a "History Use" or "Use of History" subject and the other either a Free Subject or a Society Science subject.

First off the candidates for the "History Use" spot:

1. Massacres of the Second World War and genocide in Yugoslav Histiography, debate and politics 1945-2002.

2. History Use - The Roman Empire (no other description given yet)

3. History Use - Anciant Greece (as described in) 1800 to 2006.

4. History Use - (no other description given yet, but I believe this will be about the more theoretical aspects of the term).

Then on to the Free Subject (FS) or Society Science Subject (SSS).

1. SSS: Social Structures and Conflicts in modern Europe's States 1500-2000.

2. SSS: An Industry Canon: Traits in the Industrial society's history in Denmark 1915-1970.

3. FS: Recollection and Identity in the Middelage's history writing

4. FS: The village in the 17th and 18th century.

5. FS: Identity among the ancient Greeks. Trends, themes and constructs (In English)

6. FS: International history topic, 20th Century (In English)

7. FS: Cold War Crises (In English)

8. FS: Nations and Nationalism in Europe since 1945 (In English)

Just generally because i like the history of the Romans and its varied and interesting and just something that'd keep me interested

Then on to the Free Subject (FS) or Society Science Subject (SSS).
7. FS: Cold War Crisis (In English)
I'd choose this because its a subject i dont know alot over (even being from the UK) Yeah i prefer to choose something i'd enjoy or want to learn about.

Choose what you want mate something that your sure will interest you and best of luck and tell us what you choose

Hells, :D

Heh same as Hells Angel

History Use
2. History Use - The Roman Empire (no other description given yet)
I like Rome and we only briefly touched upon them in my Internation History class.

Free Subject (FS) or Society Science Subject (SSS)

7. FS: Cold War Crises (In English)
Its not really discussed but i think it was a great political time and would love to learn much more about it.

But Hells is right you should definitly choose something that you want to learn about that way you can do good and enjoy yourself most of all.

3. History Use - Anciant Greece (as described in) 1800 to 2006.
Ancient Greece rulez man. The romans stole all their ideas including their gods lol. Btw the romans didnt know what to believe anyway... they went through multiple religions lol. But lets get back to the greek. The greek are the base of modern day society.

All the FS and SSS looked a bit boring to me. But thats why i studt biotechnology not history :) But if i had to chose i would pick:
FS: International history topic, 20th Century (In English)
just because the others look too boring to me. (i cant pick the greek twice cmon! ;))

1. SSS: Social Structures and Conflicts in modern Europe's States 1500-2000.

This is close to a unit i would like to do if i ever get off the ground with a uni course lol. Think the unit i looked at was 1800s-1950s, something like that.
Covers the period am most intrested in hehe.

Personally at the moment I'm going for the following:

3. History Use - Anciant Greece (as described in) 1800 to 2006.

and

3. FS: Recollection and Identity in the Middelage's history writing

But that may very well change as my wishes are only to be sent between January 1st and 15th. I'm not too sure about the Middleages stuff due to the teacher in that subject being from Iceland (I seriously don't understand shit of what she's saying)...

Instead of that I might choose 8. FS: Nations and Nationalism in Europe since 1945 (In English) but there are some ups and downs to that subject... at my first semester my main subject was "European Nationalism 1800-1945", so I've already done Nationalism which could both be good as I would then have a better background, but also bad because I might not learn anything new.

4. FS: The village in the 17th and 18th century. Is a definate NO! My mainsubject in this and in the last semester was Danish Agricultural History with the same teacher that has that subject and she is both boring and incapable of teaching others (I do though believe that she was great at her former job as head of our national archives).

1. SSS: Social Structures and Conflicts in modern Europe's States 1500-2000. Might be a possibility but that really depends on the details, which I'll try to learn more about. I'm not familiar with the teacher but think she might be one of the Ph.d. Students.

Definitely 2 and 3. What geographical location is the supposed village? There was quite a bit of difference between an English village and a Russian village and a Danish village.

These are my choices. I looks like everyone who has posted so far seems to like the greek/roman thing.

My interest has always been the Genocide in Yugo and the messed up state of Europe in general.

My family and I fled Yugo because we felt it was unsafe. And we were right. We fled in 1992, because Bosnia went to hell

And the most bizarre thing is when you neighbours become your enemie.

I think we should all study what happened in Yugoslavia, because i don't know what the hell happened.

One day you playing in the garden, the next day your on the bus to croatia, fleeing.

History will repeat it self, maybe we should learn from it, in stead of fantasising about the Roman Empire.

That's my opinion, i hope i didn't rattle any cages.

But it all depends, Blame Canada, do you want to study long lost empires, or learn from yesterdays mistakes.

Be prepeared to see some shocking stuff if you decide to research the Ethnic Cleansing of Yugoslavia.
