I just bought this book today. So far its pretty good. Its MAJ. Dick Winters telling the story of Easy Company in his own words, and his life after VE-Day and VJ-Day.
Anyone else read it/ are reading it?

I read it, it's very good. You get a lot more information than in Ambrose's book because this is in Winters' own words.

Yeah, I like the book, very accurate about Winters.:)
You should also read the books of Donald R. Burget. He was a soldier in the second world war. Served in the 101st airborne division 506th regiment Able compagny. He has a couple of very good books, over D-Day, Market-Garden and Bastogne.

A member of the 101st, as well as Easy Company. Really good book. I recommend it to all.

GuiltySpark, your on the right track to doing accurate research. All are decent books. Ambroses movie is off, its great to read the actual memoir of the person who lived it first hand. Happy reading.

His movie? Didnt the miniseries go into alot more deapth then the actuall book did?
Anyhoo, doesnt Donald R. Burget give E company a bad rep in his books? I think i read somewhere that he was rather angry (as where alot of vets from the 101st supposidly) about Ambrose focusing on E Company, and that he made these feeling clear in the book.
Any truth to this?
343Guiltyspark: May i ask what these 2 encyclopedias are called and what is your impression on the one that you already have?

I've read four Donald R. Burget books and they are all great, easy to read, even for a slow reader such as myself. But I don't recall any refences in his books to Ambrose or any other books. Ambrose is better than a lot of authors as he got out there and spoke to the vets. Someone will always be anoyed that he cover this story instead of that story etc. but one man can only do so much. I think there are normally a couple of decent books by different authors that cover aspect of the war even if every battle/unit is not covered in detail

Beyond Band of Brothers sounds great :D
By the way, i just read in the newspaper that the city of Eindhoven has made Major Winters a Citizen of Honor( not sure if this is right translation in english though ;) ) for his deeds and the deeds of the 101st in Eindhoven during WWII. He received the symbol of honor, which was the highest decoration the city had to offer.
On topic though ;) :
In the Movie "Band of brothers" alot of the story is already told from Winters perspective. (Normandy, Holland etc.).
And since i've never read the book i wanted to know if the books are more the summing up of facts, or more the personal opinions and memories from the soldiers in E-companie?
thnx in advance for an answer

Beyond Band of Brothers fixes the mistakes in the mini series. Alot of the stuff in the movie has little inaccuracies, and the book has awesome parts that should have been in the mini series. Winters is telling everything in Beyond BOB, and its a very very good book.
