Damn Ben Harper...

okay, so I've gone down to the shops and bought a copy of the "Ben Harper and the Blind Boys of Alabama" CD. Listening to it on the way home, "hey, this is pretty sweet. I like all this stuff. This is a good CD!".
Get home, go over to the computer, put the CD in, open up iTunes...


Nothing.

Eject. Insert into other drive.


Nothing.

Eject. Back into original drive.


Nothing.

Close iTunes. Eject CD. Insert into other drive...


Loads. "Well that was weird... What the? Licence check!?"

CD installs a 'licence' on my computer to show that I have actually bought the CD, and not just got myself a pirated copy... Starts playing through its own little program which comes with the CD...

Open iTunes - No CD detected.

"Ooh, hello.. What's this? A 'Copy Album' button... It looks like this button is meant to copy the contents of the CD onto my computer so I can listen to it with ease...

Copies...

Opens iTunes. Add files.


Could not add files. Files are protected.

Eject CD.
Take over to other computer.
Pirates illegally.
Brings pirated version over to this computer.
Adds contents to iTunes.



Notes the irony.

In summary - Don't buy "There will be a light" by "Ben Harper and the Blind Boys of Alabama". It's a good CD, but definitely not worth the effort to add it to the computer. I don't think EMI/Virgin realise how stupid it is to put anti-copy on CDs. It only inconveniences the people who actually buy it, and pirates work their way around EVERYTHING.

Use Nero or search online for a Codec to bypass the Coded CD, and use Media Player to copy the CD to your PC, Media player has uploaded everyone of my CD's that was copy protection.

Remember to update Media Player if it doesn't work. :D

well theres no wonder why people burn music, I mean when CD's first came out they were $15.95, now some if not most go for $19.95 to $22.95?
You would think with how easy it is to make a CD and how cheap CD's are they would make them cheaper, all you see are Rap Stars making Videos on how Rich they have become off little kids spending loot on crap CD's, well at least it's better then when they song in the Early 90's about capping people that whore the wrong color in there neighborhood.

CD's that have come out these past few years only have like 1 or 2 songs that are worth buying the CD for.

I like what Wal*Mart has $12.95 make your own CD, just download any song for $.88 and make your own CD.

When I buy music I buy the release day...usually on sale at BB for $11.99 or so...I wont buy a $19.99 CD unless its a box set or Double Album worth purchasing. Note: I own 2 copies of Smashing Pumpkins: Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. If its worth it I will buy it. But todays music sucks. Only thing Im looking forward to is the new Tool Record. I do want to buy some Earshot albums though.......


Britney pisses me off too...but you can't say you woundl't hit it. :p

The only cd's I buy are Beatles or solo albums from the Beatles members. Even though they average about 25$ Canadian, all the songs are GOOD, unlike anything modern.

They want people to stop downloading movies/music? Lower the prices. I dont pay 25$ for two good songs, or 20$ for a bad movie/popcorn and a pop.

I don't listen to much commercial music. I'm into a lot of bands that really haven't made it "big" yet. If I named most of the bands I listened to, basically everyone would just say "who?".
But the Ben Harper CD has really got me quite annoyed. I've finally got it onto my iPod, but now what am I going to do with the spare disc? Give it to a friend. Because of EMI/Virgin records paranoia, Ben Harper just lost a CD sale. The other stuff I listen to, they don't bother with anti-copy, because they know that if someone wants the CD, they'll have to buy it. You can't download the stuff, because basically no one has it. You have to buy it. You can give a copy to a friend, but they'll probably end up either 1) hating it and never listening to it again, or 2) loving it so much they'll go and buy the CD themselves.
Good to see record companies only inconveniencing the legitimate buyers of CDs...

I've resorted to downloading the tracks off a certain file-sharing program. Now technically, this is illegal. However, I have the CD. I paid for the CD. I own the CD.
I see no wrong in me downloading tracks I already own. Yet it's still probably illegal.


Go figure.

If you have the CD, then downloading the songs is Legal, because some people want to make Back Up CD's but can't figure out how to do it, so they download and put there New CD away and use the Burned CD.

It's a legit process.
